Clinic for General, Visceral and Minimally-Invasive Surgery

PD Dr. med. Robert Pfitzmann

The Clinic for General, Visceral and Minimally Invasive Surgery covers the entire range of treatments in general and visceral surgery (abdominal surgery). Our main focus areas are the treatment of benign and malignant diseases of the digestive organs, i.e. treatments on the gastrointestinal tract (stomach, small and large intestines, rectum, liver/gallbladder and pancreas). Furthermore, we also specialize in treatment of the thyroid gland, the adrenal gland and the spleen. Most surgical treatments are carried out with minimally invasive technologies. For operations on the thyroid gland we use neuromonitoring in order to protect the vocal cord nerves.

Range of Treatments at the Clinic:

  • Thyroid gland surgery (function-preserving or complete removal)
  • Operations for diaphragmatic hernia and heartburn (esophageal reflux)
  • Gastric surgery (partial or complete removal of the stomach in cases of gastric tumours, operations for stomach ulcers, emergency surgery on the stomach)
  • Liver surgery (metastatic surgery, cyst removals)
  • Pancreatic surgery (pancreatic cancer)
  • Removal of the adrenal gland (tumours, metastases)
  • Removal of the gall bladder in cases of kidney stones, inflammation, gall bladder polyps
  • Bile duct surgery for benign and malignant diseases of the bile ducts
  • Appendectomies for appendicitis
  • Hernia operations: minimally invasive procedures (TAPP), open repair (Shouldice, Lichtenstein)
  • Abdominal wall hernia and incisional hernia surgery: minimally invasive procedures or open repair
  • Partial removal of colon for inflammation (e.g. diverticulitis, colitis)
  • Colon removals for cancer
  • Removal of rectum for cancer
  • Haemorrhoids, anal fissure surgery, perianal abscess division

For cancer surgery we apply multimodal treatment concepts. This means that in some cases surgery is supplemented by chemotherapy and/or irradiation in order to improve the result. Tumour conferences take place on a regular basis in cooperation with oncologists (cancer specialists), radiation therapists, radiologists and gastroenterologists (gastrointestinal specialists), in order to establish ideal treatments for our cancer patients according to the latest scientific standards. All our cancer patients are discussed at these tumour conferences.

An experienced surgical team is available for you 24 hours a day and 7 days a week.
